About me

Originally from Edinburgh, I live with my partner near Alness and have worked in the Highlands for the last 28 years. I have 4 grown up children and 6 grandchildren who live in different parts of the country.

My working life began in the motor trade. I trained as a motor mechanic and eventually moved into sales and management, which included a period of running my own business.

As a middle-aged man I changed direction in life and started to work directly with people. I qualified as a mental health nurse, working for 3 years in New Craigs Psychiatric hospital before moving into the community where, as part of a small team, I helped facilitate therapeutic groups. Working in the field of mental health as a nurse confirmed for me the vital part that talking therapy played on the road to recovery. This was a contributing factor in pursuing my career as a counsellor.

I was first attracted to Person Centred Counselling because of the potential for change this approach to therapy can bring in a person's life. As a result of it's application, I had experienced growth and learning in my own life and witnessed positive change in others.

In my personal life I enjoy sport and I regularly play table tennis, tennis and enjoy watching rugby. I also enjoy sea kayaking. I am attracted to Arctic travel and have completed a number of remote expeditions in Alaska and the Canadian Arctic. I also enjoy singing and spending time with my family.
